Don't bother.FAME Studios is a recording studio located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Upon looking at their website now, it says they are open again. If this is how they treat visitors, then I am glad I did not get to take the tour or waste money on a donation. However, not having the decency to reply to a legitimate question from someone who paid for a tour is really uncalled for. I understand that they are a working recording studio and dealing with artists is a much higher priority than giving tours. Again, I received no response whatsoever. I responded to her email thanking her for the refund and again asked if they thought they would be open on July 21. On July 7, the day of my tour, I was not notified until two hours before the tour per email from Ana Megan Hyde that the studio was closed due to an electrical issue and they refunded my money. It was really important to me to take the tour as I likely will not be in Alabama ever again. Upon returning to my hotel, I used the Contact Us form to ask if they would be open on July 21 as I was going to be traveling back through Alabama on that date and could rearrange my plans. He had traveled from Indianapolis to visit the studio. Met another music fan there who had this place on his bucket list. After visiting Fame, I drove over to the studio to see if any further information was posted on the door. Interesting that they did not bother to notify the people who had paid for the tour. I went on the Fame Studios tour and learned from someone else there that it was true that Muscle Shoals Sound Studio was closed. The website said they were temporarily closed with no further information. When I arrived on July 6, I checked online that everything I was planning to see was still open as things have been sketchy due to Covid. I was deliberately stopping in Muscle Shoals just to take this tour. I booked and paid online on June 19 for a tour of the studio on July 7 when I would be passing through Muscle Shoals on an extensive road trip. There's also a very active restaurant "district" downtown with lots of options for food. Singin' River Brewery is a great stop for refreshment if you like beer very friendly and helpful bartender and lots of locals to chat with. I think our guide said there were 17 at one point? You can see their faded signs on buildings down the road. Next time! Driving around town you get a real sense of the history and other music studios that were here. We drove by the Frank Lloyd Wright house but didn't have time to stop. Went to the FAME studio and the birthplace of W.C. We spent a day in Muscle Shoals - could have stayed for two or three. He also told us the stories of the musicians - both the session players and the performers who came to town to use their services. He would show us an instrument and then play part of a song that had featured it. He knew the history of the building and music and also knew the instruments and musicians. We walked in and did a tour with a really awesome guide from the staff.
